Oscar Piastri dismissed all the speculations suggesting he was thinking about leaving McLaren as he addressed Helmut Marko's comments.
Following the 2024 United States Grand Prix, rumors suggesting that Oscar Piastri was thinking about switching F1 teams started emerging.
These are mainly to be attributed to Red Bull's motorsport advisor Helmut Marko, who told F1 Insider: "Let's put it this way: Mark Webber is looking for intensive dialogue."
The successful former F1 driver Mark Webber is Oscar Piastri's manager. So when Marko said he was seeking an intensive dialogue, it would suggest Piastri was not completely happy with his position in McLaren.
But why would the Australian driver want to leave the team that currently has perhaps the fastest car? One reason might be that he doesn't like how McLaren decided to prioritize Lando Norris towards the end of the season.
Max Verstappen recently said he would never accept this position if he were in Piastri's shoes. However, when it comes to prioritizing drivers, it certainly doesn't look like Piastri would be better off in Red Bull right next to the Dutchman.
The 23-year-old F1 driver was asked about the rumors during a press day (Thursday) ahead of the 2024 Mexico City Grand Prix, and he asserted he is definitely not thinking about leaving McLaren.
"Definitely not, I'm very happy where I am, I'm under contract for the next two years after this, and I'm certainly not looking to go elsewhere. It wouldn't be a week in F1 without some comments from Helmut."
Helmut Marko has made it known this season that he believes the McLaren driver duo is the strongest on the grid. The 81-year-old even put Norris with Piastri over Verstappen with Perez. Piastri continued:
"Not massively, I mean, it's a nice compliment, I would say, but again, I'm very happy with where I am, and I think they have quite a big pool of drivers that they can choose from if they want to."
