Red Bull Racing F1 driver
Sergio Perez reflected on possible improvements after the 2023
United States Grand Prix at
Circuit of the Americas.
After the disqualification of Lewis Hamilton's number 44 Mercedes, Perez gained 39-point lead over the seven-time world champion. As quoted by
F1.com, the Mexican driver told the media after the race:
"I wanted more for today, obviously. At times, we had a really good pace, but we are still lacking that consistency. It was a hard race; the Ferrari seemed to have improved, but I also think we made a good step from yesterday."
Checo still struggles with qualifying sessions compared to his teammate
Max Verstappen. Starting from the ninth place on the grid, Perez managed to fight his way through to final fifth place (fourth after Hamilton's disqualification).
"It was quite difficult to overtake, especially because the exit of turn 11 was quite tricky as it was very windy and rough over there."
The Mexican driver was not too satisfied with the race, as he mentioned he needed to review some things with his team. Perez elaborated:
"We had a few occasions where we could have undercut people, so I think we need to review that as a Team. I think we know what we did wrong across the weekend, so we are really optimistic going into future races."
The number 11 driver already had a big support at the United States Grand Prix, which showed when his
fans chanted "Checo" repeatedly during the post-race interview of winning drivers. The Mexican is already looking forward to his next race on home soil.
"We need to make sure we learn from this weekend as there are some good understandings to make for Mexico. There is a bit more pace in there, and I am massively looking forward to my home Grand Prix."
