Sergio Perez explained in an interview ahead of the Saudi Arabian Grand Prix that he needs some time as well before he makes a decision about his future.
Sergio Perez's contract with
Red Bull expires at the end of the 2024 season. So far, he hasn't been confirmed as the team's driver for the next year.
Although he has a chance to get the seat,
many other drivers would love to get a chance in the currently fastest car on the grid. So the competition is high. Asked whether he actually wants to stay in Red Bull, the Mexican driver told Sky Sports:
"I want to wait a few races to see how everything goes. It's obviously not an easy or straightforward seat. It has some complications that we've seen in the past."
The 34-year-old pointed out that two drivers before him,
Alex Albon and
Pierre Gasly, couldn't keep the seat with the team for more than half a season or one year.
"We've seen great drivers that didn't even survive six months or year. And they are great drivers, but it's a unique team in that regard."
The Mexican driver has been with Red Bull for three seasons already, and 2024 is his fourth. So far, he hasn't been able to beat the triple-world champion in the battle for the title.
"This is my 14th season in the sport, so I want to see the next few races and how everything goes on. I think at Red Bull, it would be a very fast conversation in terms of, it will take us five minutes to say what we want to do, we know each other for many years already. But we are not there yet. I want to take a few races."
