Lewis Hamilton asserted he doesn't need his decision vindicated amid constant questioning about whether it was the right thing to do.
The seven-time World Champion decided to sign with Ferrari ahead of the 2024 season, not knowing how the two teams' performances would compare.
Mercedes finished ahead of Ferrari in 2023, so it seemed like a strange choice for Hamilton rather to join the team from Maranello. However, the first four races of the season now reveal Ferrari appears to be ahead of the German team by quite some margin.
When the 39-year-old was asked whether Mercedes's current struggle confirmed that he had made the right choice, he told the media at Shanghai International Circuit:
"Well, I don't feel like I need my decision vindicating. I think I know what's right for me, and that hasn't changed since the moment that I made the decision."
"There's not been a moment where I've questioned it, and I'm not swayed by other people's comments. Even today, there's people continuing to talk s**t, and it will continue on for the rest of the year."
The seven-time World Champion is in a tough situation because, on the one hand, he wants to show commitment to his current team, but on the other hand, he keeps being asked questions about Ferrari, which would make it seem like he just can't wait to leave Mercedes. He added:
"And I'll have to just do what I did in the previous time. Only you can know what was right for you. And it will be an exciting time for me."
The 39-year-old had a different reaction to a similar question right after the Japanese Grand Prix when a report asked him whether he was looking forward to Ferrari looking at how much faster they are.
Hamilton snapped back at the report with, "Do you have any better questions?" and then walked away. Whether or not he is looking to Ferrari, the Briton is definitely growing tired of questions related to the team from Maranello.
