Former F1 driver Ralf Schumacher recommended that Lando Norris find and work with a psychologist to improve his performance on the track.
The McLaren Racing driver Lando Norris has been struggling a bit during the last couple of races. Although he had the car capable of winning the race, he just didn't have what it took to bring the victory home in any of the last six races.
He could have won in Canada but made a strategic mistake; he could have won in Spain but lost it on the run into the first corner. He could have won in Austria, but he crashed with Max Verstappen.
The 24-year-old could have won in Great Britain but made a strategic mistake again. He also had the pace to beat his teammate and win the race in Hungary, but he put himself into a position where he had to give up the win a few laps before the end of the race with no chance for a comeback.
McLaren yet again had a great pace in Belgium, but Norris lost too many positions in the first corner, where he made a mistake and was stuck behind someone for the rest of the race.
Mistakes and minor errors like this happen to everyone, but when they happen repeatedly, a pattern forms and former F1 driver Ralf Schumacher suggests Norris needs to do something about this. He told Sky Germany:
“"It can happen, but it shouldn't happen. And he urgently needs to change this little thing, because otherwise, the relatively cool Piastri will eventually overtake him once he's got it all figured out in the race."”
Schumacher does not doubt the 24-year-old's driving skills, but as F1 Oversteer reports, he believes Norris might need to work on his mindset with some psychologist. He added:
“"For more self-confidence, to become calmer, with relaxation exercises and things like that. It didn't help me, I wasn't good enough anyway, but no, joking aside. I tried it. Some don't need it but I think Lando could use a bit of support."”
Do you think a psychologist could help the McLaren driver become more consistent and make fewer mistakes on track?
