McLaren F1 driver Lando Norris shared his thoughts about the qualifying result on Friday during the 2023 Sao Paulo Grand Prix Weekend.
McLaren drivers Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri unleashed great pace starting from the first laps in the qualifying session on Friday at the Interlagos circuit.
Lando Norris was in the mix for first place throughout the whole session, achieving provisional pole here and there. Multiple other teams like Mercedes, Aston Martin, Red Bull, and Ferrari were also looking strong.
But the session came to an earlier end when it had to be ended after the first round of flying laps due to extreme weather conditions. In the end, Norris was only able to achieve a P7.
The Mclaren driver seemed disappointed with his results after the race as he told the media he thought his car was 'easily quick enough probably to be quickest.'
"It was great, honestly. The car was amazing, easily quick enough probably to be quickest today and on pole, so pretty gutted it had to end the way it did. I don’t know what to feel about it."
The problem was the conditions on the track changed extremely fast. The track got colder, it started raining, and the wind got stronger. Drivers had to tip-toe around the circuit to avoid sliding and losing time.
"I think the car was amazing, it came alive a lot in qualifying and easily good enough to be quickest. Obviously, delivering the lap and putting it together in Q3 and everything’s a different job, but easily quick enough, so disappointed – another disappointing Saturday [sic] – but not a lot we could have done."
After being told he could bounce back on Saturday during the Sprint Shouutout and the Sprint race, Norris responded: "Yeah, sure."
"I look forward to tomorrow. The car is good. I don’t know if it’s going to be good in the wet or if it’s going to be wet or dry tomorrow, but in the dry we should be quick enough. A shame."
