McLaren Racing driver Lando Norris opened up about the challenging few days he went through following the 2024 Sao Paulo Grand Prix.
The 21st round of the 2024 season in Brazil turned out to be most probably the
turning point of the whole year. Until then, Lando Norris was
chasing down the Championship leader
Max Verstappen.
In Sao Paulo, the 24-year-old had a chance to massively close the gap to Verstappen as he started from pole the Dutchman from P17.
However, when they crossed the finish line in the end, the triple World Champion was first, and the McLaren driver finished in P6, losing too many points, and the gap went up to 62 points (with only three race weekends to go).
While on paper, Norris could still win, Verstappen would literally have to
not score any points in two races at least, which has happened only once this season - in
Australia due to brake failure.
Realizing that he just lost this huge battle, Norris was
overwhelmed with emotions. Speaking to
The Telegraph ahead of the 2024
Las Vegas Grand Prix, the Briton
opened up about the tough few days he went through after that race weekend:
"I literally couldn't sleep for the first two days. So I did, like, what, 36-40 hours straight. So, that probably made everything worse. When you're tired, you're more moody, and that kind of thing. Like, it's a double effect."
"I was just sat at home alone. It probably would have been better if I had been with my friends. But they don't live in Monaco."
"They also have lives and are busy doing other things. And I'm a big overthinker, so like the whole flight home, the whole week, it just played over and over in my head."
"What could I have done differently? Why did I do that? Why did I not do this? You start thinking of all the scenarios that you kind of blame yourself for, why it's now not possible, that kind of thing."
"And yeah, because I overthink and I struggle with that kind of thing, that took a bigger toll in the days after. It wasn't an easy time."
