Every single driver started the race on the soft compound tires, and by lap 16, all of them except for Verstappen had to pit and change their tires.

The 26-year-old in front was able to manage his tires much better and finally boxed to change his tires on lap 18 when he switched from soft to hard compound.

After he came out of the pits, the gap between him and Sergio Perez was about 5 seconds. However, the Dutchman stretched the gap to 16 seconds in 20 laps before he went into the pits for the second time.

The Flying Dutchman led every single lap of the race as he started from pole position and was always the last to box for different sets of tires.

The first win of the 2024 season is the triple World Champion's eighth consecutive win (counting the seven wins at the end of the 2023 season).

It seems that Red Bull was able to retain their pace advantage from 2023. If Verstappen can stay consistent and win the next three races, he will extend his own record for the most consecutive wins to 11.
