McLaren F1 driver Lando Norris commented on struggling Aston Martin after the 2023 United States Grand Prix at Circuit of the Americas.
Lando Norris came close to competing for first place during the 2023 United States Grand Prix as he was leading the race for a few laps before being overtaken by Max Verstappen and Lewis Hamilton.
The McLaren driver crossed the finish line in the third place in the end. However, after the disqualification of the seven-time World Champion, he moved up to second place.
His yet another great result added 18 points to McLaren, which consequently overtook struggling Aston Martin in the Constructors' Championship. The 23-year-old told media after the race.
"Aston, I just don’t know. They seem to have made the car slower and slower with every upgrade that they bought."
Fernando Alonso told the media earlier this weekend it might have been a mistake to bring upgrades to a sprint weekend. After failed qualifying and sprint, he called the United States Grand Prix weekend "one to forget."
The Sunday race did not go much better for the Spaniard, as he retired in lap 51. Aston Martin team seemed like the only threat to Red Bull at the beginning of the season, but as Lando Norris said, "they have been struggling."
"They [Red Bull] were racing Aston at the beginning of the year, and I didn’t know where they finished today, but you know, they were out in Q1, and then they’ve been struggling."
McLaren has been seeing opposite results to Aston Martin as the team struggled at the beginning of the season. Still, it made a remarkable comeback with significant upgrades to the car.
Alonso called Norris "overconfident" a while ago for thinking McLaren could catch up to Aston Martin. However, as of the United States Grand Prix, the predictions have become true. Norris concluded:
"So I don’t know what their issues are, but they were very strong, they had a lot of points in the first half of the season, the second half they’ve been struggling, and for us, it’s vice versa."
