After scoring his P3 during the 2024 Australian Grand Prix, Norris officially broke an unfortunate record previously held by Nick Heidfeld.
After starting the third race of the 2024 season around the Albert Park Circuit from P3, Lando Norris went on to score the first podium of the season for McLaren.
The 24-year-old could maybe even have finished even higher, but his team didn't choose the best strategy, and his progress was hindered as a result.
Nevertheless, the Papaya driver added podium number 14 to his collection, which also means he broke the record for the most podiums scored without winning a single race.
This record was previously held by Nick Heidfeld, who scored 13 podiums during his 12-year career in Formula 1, driving for teams like Red Bull, BMW-Sauber, and Lotus Renault.
On the one hand, some drivers on the grid have not finished on the podium so far and would give everything to at least stand on the podium.
On the other hand, Norris has come super close to victory in a race on numerous occasions already and just didn't have that bit of luck that would help him win.
Asked ahead of the 2024 season by Sky Sports whether he believed he could achieve his first win with McLaren, Norris confidently responded he was 100% he could:

"100 percent, yeah. Because it's going to be next year, and I'm with McLaren next year. I feel like we're so close."

The problem is that McLaren didn't start the season as well as Norris hoped they would. So far, he could the 24-year-old scored 6th, 8th, and 3rd-place finishes in the first three races of the season.
The British team still lacks pace compared to the leading Red Bull and Ferrari. However, they showed promising speed during the Australian Grand Prix and are expected to bring a major upgrade package either to Miami or Imola. That might perhaps be Norris's next greatest chance to score his first-ever win in F1.
