Christian Horner pointed out the "frustrating" aspect of Sergio Perez's current slump in performance.
Sergio Perez finished in P17 during the most recent- 12th round of the season at Silverstone Circuit after qualifying in P19 and starting from the pitlane.
The weekend in Great Britain was very tough for the Mexican driver, and he apologized to his team already after qualifying, as he knew there wouldn't be much that he could do after starting from so far back.
However, this has not happened for the first time. The 34-year-old has not stood on the podium in the last seven race weekends (which was where his team wanted him at the start of the season).
Moreover, he collected a mere 11 points during this period, which is far behind the benchmark set by his teammate Max Verstappen—117 points.
Similar to the 2023 season, when Checo went through a similar period, rumors about his potential replacement started emerging during summer break.
Only two races remain before the summer break- this week's Hungarian Grand Prix and the Belgian Grand Prix. Asked whether these two races will be crucial for the Mexican driver, Christian Horner told Speed City Broadcasting:
"Well, all the races are crucial. Because, the Constructors', yes, we've extended on Ferrari, but McLaren have closed the gap by seven points.:
In fact, the CEO of McLaren, Zak Brown, stated that if McLaren continues catching up with the Austrian team at the current rate, they will be the leaders in the Constructors' Championship by the end of the season.
Consequently, Red Bull urgently needs Perez to return to the form that he has had at the start of the season. The team principal added:
"And we can't just rely on one car, so we desperately need Checo to start scoring good points again. I mean, we know what he's capable of. That's the frustrating element."
"But, we'll sit down after this race and look at what we need to do to the last two races before the summer break."
