Red Bull Racing's team principal,
Christian Horner, commented on
Sergio Perez's performance after the fourth race weekend of the season.
The fourth round of the 2024 season took place at
Suzuka Circuit, which last time around (2023) was the worst race of the year for Mexican F1 driver Sergio Perez.
However, it was clear from
the qualifying that the 34-year-old analyzed what went wrong and made a serious improvement as he was pretty much almost matching the lap times of his triple World Champion teammate Max Verstappen.
In the end, he missed the pole by a mere 0.066 seconds but secured a front-row start with a comfortable margin. Once the race started, he was able to
retain and maintain his P2 until he crossed the finish line.
All in all, the
Japanese Grand Prix was another excellent weekend for the Red Bull Racing team, which took home maximum points thanks to both drivers. Christian Horner commented on Checo's performance after the race:
"It's his seat to lose. He's doing a great job, I mean he qualified within a tenth of a second yesterday, by far his best qualifying performance around here. You can see his confidence is growing."
"I thought his performance in the race was very strong today, his third second place of the year and doing exactly what it's needed of him."
Perez had to make his way through a couple of cars after a pit stop and showed some incredible overtakes going into the 130R Corner (turn number 15).
Two laps in a row, he overtook Mercedes drivers exactly in the same spot with an overtake which required a lot of bravery.
Horner later joked the Mexican's overtakes looked like he had no family to return to. According to Total-motorsport.com, he said:
"It didn't look like he had three kids when he did those maneuvers."
