The 1997 F1 World Champion Jacques Villeneuve discussed what he expects to see from Lewis Hamilton once he joins Ferrari.
The seven-time World Champion Lewis Hamilton will be switching teams after the end of the 2024 season. Although he says he loves Mercedes and is forever grateful to the German team, he felt it was time to fulfill his childhood dream and join Ferrari.
What his dream is, however, might not be as easy. The 39-year-old is going to join a team with a completely different culture.
Former F1 driver and a World Champion Jacques Villeneuve was asked by Instantcasino.com whether Hamilton will be able to cope with all the pressure in the team from Maranello, and he replied:
"Lewis Hamilton will be an emotional rollercoaster at Ferrari. He seems to be very emotional in his driving, in the highs and lows, and it seems to affect him quite a lot."
While it might be considered a weakness at some points, these swings can also be a strength because once he gets a competitive car and feels he can go for victory, the seven-time World Champion gets into a zone and performs miracles.
Villeneuve remembered the 2024 British Grand Prix, which was super tricky with mixed conditions. Once the Mercedes driver felt he could go for the victory, he drove flawlessly, making all the right decisions and bringing the car home in P1.
"You can tell he was on a roll and in the zone at Silverstone. He hasn't been in the zone like that for a while. Most of the season, it's looked like Hamilton was accepting defeat to George Russell, which is weird."
"In Silverstone, his killer instinct was back, and he made the difference in the rain. That's the champion we know, he knows how to take hold of an occasion."
