Lewis Hamilton was satisfied after the first two practice sessions in Las Vegas but warned that Mercedes still has a lot of work to do.

The seven-time World Champion admitted ahead of the weekend in Las Vegas that he was seriously considering not finishing the 2024 season after the terrible Grand Prix in Sao Paulo.

However, the seven-time World Champion will be glad that he didn't, as he topped the timing sheets during both practice sessions at Las Vegas Strip Circuit.

His teammate, George Russell, confirmed that Mercedes really has the pace by putting in the second-fastest time in FP1 and the third-fastest time in FP2.

Speaking to the media following the second practice session, the 39-year-old Mercedes F1 driver said he was satisfied. On the other hand, he warned that the timing sheets might be a bit deceiving.

"Pretty good. It's the first time I've actually had a day like that this year I think. The car was feeling really, really good in P1 [FP1]. P2 [FP2], less so.
"So we've got some work to do overnight. Difficult to know exactly where we are or why we are where we are, but really enjoyed driving the track."
"We'll see whether the car is still the same tomorrow. Hot conditions are a little bit worse for us, but the race pace is still not great."
"We have got work to do overnight to figure out how we are going to get better race pace without losing natural pace throughout the lap. But it was nice to get consecutive sectors and the car not throw me off."

Mercedes hasn't looked so fast in the practice sessions for quite some time. Asked if the German team could be fighting for pole position and maybe a race victory later on, the seven-time World Champion replied:

"I'm feeling good in myself. Coming into this weekend I knew it's not my driving. I've just got to work hard overnight not to make big changes, and I hope I can get some good rest tonight."
