Lewis Hamilton shared what he told fellow Briton
Lando Norris after he won the first race in his career during the most recent race weekend at
Miami International Autodrome.
F1 saw third different race winner this year during the 2024
Miami Grand Prix as Lando Norris recorded his maiden win after an incredible performance.
The
McLaren driver had more pace than anyone else on the grid and even though he might not have won without the well-timed safety car, he completely deserved the victory.
Max Verstappen, who finished second
said he was happy to be beaten by Norris and along with the Dutchman, multiple other drivers congratulated the young Briton for his first victory. Speaking to the media after the race, Lewis Hamilton revealed what he told Norris:
"Honestly, I feel really happy for Lando [Norris]. Yeah, I just told him he needs to stay tonight! He's going to try and change his flight, he's got to, he's just won a race!"
McLaren's CEO did, in the end, change the flight for Norris, which meant the party was on for the rest of the day. Even the 24-year-old himself joked he might have more than a nose bruise after the Sunday party night in Miami. Hamilton continued:
"But, such a special moment to win your first Grand Prix and obviously I started at McLaren so I’m really happy to see them back at the top, it’s been a long time."
Concerning his own race, the seven-time World Champion suggested it was enjoyable. He started from P8 and crossed the finish line in P6.
"I had some enjoyable battles out there. I was giving it everything I had to make progress and made a couple of good overtakes."
"We were challenging the Red Bull at the end so to be able to race them felt great, it was probably the best day of racing I've had this year, so we just need to keep pushing."
