Lewis Hamilton made a Max Verstappen comparison as he reacted to the decision that Lando Norris had to make during the 2024 Hungarian Grand Prix.
During the 13th round of the season in Budapest, Lando Norris found himself in one of the toughest situations in his career as he got into the lead of the race, but his team ordered him to swap positions with his teammate in second place.
It should be noted that the 24-year-old got into the lead of the race just because his team allowed him to undercut his own teammate due to strategic reasons.
Nevertheless, when he was already leading the race, it wasn't so easy for Norris to give up the position and he tried to negotiate with his team.
After many laps of arguing on the team radio, the British driver finally let his teammate through and crossed the finish line in second place.
The seven-time World Champion Lewis Hamilton was asked whether Norris did ultimately do the right thing by letting his teammate pass him and win the race, and he responded:
"It's not my call to make. I mean, if that was Max, he wouldn't have let him pass. I don't know what to say. It's not for me to decide."
The Dutchman was already asked by his team to let his teammate pass him during the 2022 Brazilian Grand Prix. Although it wasn't even for a podium position, and it was important for Sergio Perez in the Championship, the 26-year-old refused to let him pass.
On the contrary, the 39-year-old Mercedes driver claimed that if he were in Norris's position, he would have done what was right for the team and obeyed the orders.
"If I was in that situation, I would do what the team asked me to do, as hard as it is. Ultimately, because it's not about you. It's about the 2,000 people that you're representing and working with."
Reflecting on the situation a week later, Norris himself suggested the only thing he would have changed is he would have let his teammate pass him much earlier, without all the arguing on the team radio.
