Lewis Hamilton revisited the 2024 British Grand Prix victory and how it felt in the latest interview with Esquire.
Mercedes F1 driver Lewis Hamilton has not won a single race between the 2021 Saudi Arabian Grand Prix and the 2024 British Grand Prix.
It took the seven-time World Champion 56 race weekends to get back on the top step of the podium, and when he finally did, he became overwhelmed with emotion, admitting how tough it had been over the previous two years.
The 39-year-old does not tend to cry but got emotional when he finally won another race, despite many haters saying he would never be able to do so again. What's more, he managed to do it at his home Grand Prix, with the support of a huge British crowd.
It was a very magical moment. When he was asked about it in the latest interview for Esquire, the seven-time World Champion said:
"Everyone was talking about it being this fairy tale. And it really, really was unexpected. Going into that weekend, I had no idea that that was going to be possible."
"And it had been such a long time. So many thoughts cross your mind. Some of them you start to potentially believe in, bit by bit."
At the same time, 2024 is Hamilton's last season with his current team- Mercedes. He wanted to finish his long stint on the German team at a high, and he couldn't wish for anything better than winning the British Grand Prix. He added:
"And finally, I had that day when I was able to excel, and we excelled as a team, and it just kind of shuts that all down."
"And it helps you rebuild again. So it was really great to be able to do it at home, in my home country, with my family around. The last race in Mercedes at Silverstone. It couldn't have been more magical."
