Former F1 driver and four-time World Champion Alain Prost believes Lewis Hamilton could find his motivation back at Ferrari.
Thierry Boutsen (former F1 driver) suggested in a recent interview that the seven-time world champion driving for Mercedes isn't giving it his 100% at the moment.
Boutsen brought up a point from the 2024 Japanese Grand Prix, where Hamilton offered on the team radio to let his faster teammate, George Russell, pass him.
On the one hand, it could have been seen as incredible team play. On the other hand, it isn't something that Hamilton would do a year before (2023); in fact, he then defended his teammate with all his might.
Many pundits suggest Hamilton isn't giving it his best, either because he's already in Ferrari with his head or because he just lacks motivation with a car that isn't fast enough to compete even for podiums.
Assuming the 39-year-old isn't currently as motivated as he used to be, Alain Prost told Sports Illustrated he believes he could get it back at Ferrari.
"You could have an idea, but the idea or the perception you could have today is going to be different next year at the same stage, because he will be one year older and will he find his motivation back being at Ferrari?"
"It is possible because if it's for a short time, maybe only one year, if Ferrari is going well, I think he could find the motivation back.
However, the four-time World Champion suggested multiple factors will play an essential role in how the British driver settles into the Italian team, which might also influence his motivation.
"The relation with Charles [Leclerc], you know, the ambience at Ferrari is also [important]. [He has had] such a long period with an English team, Mercedes, with a way of working and then you go to an Italian team, especially with the different pressure, different way of thinking, he is under pressure from the media. I think it's not that easy."
