After the season's first two races, some experts suggested Lewis Hamilton seemed to be already in Ferrari with his head. Now, the 39-year-old has responded.
Lewis Hamilton achieved a P7 in the first race of the season and a P9 in the second race of the season. These would be considered underwhelming performances for the seven-time World Champion.
People are used to the 39-year-old's higher standards. Consequently, some pundits, like David Coulthard, for example, suggested that Hamiton seems to be already in Ferrari with his head. As GP Blog reports, the Mercedes driver responded:
"I'm 100% a Mercedes driver right now, and thats my only focus this year. I don't want it [switch to Ferrari] to be distracting me from doing the job for this team. I want to finish on a high."
No other driver before Hamilton would stay with a single team (12 years) and achieve as much (six Drivers' and eight Constructors' titles) as he has achieved with Mercedes.
"It's not just a normal driver partnering. There's no other team that's had what we've had. There's no other team that's achieved what we've achieved."
"The relationships I have with the people within my team go very deep. My goal is to deliver for them this year. If I can have the best year in terms of delivery, then I'll be really happy with that."
On the other hand, the 39-year-old also added he is looking forward to the new environment that awaits him at the team from Maranello, which he will join at the end of this season.
"Next year, I'm starting all new relationships, a whole new environment, new language, everything. It's two separate things and probably just as exciting."
