Lewis Hamilton will be racing for Ferrari in 2025, but first, he has to finish the 2024 season with Mercedes.
The seven-time World Champion is facing an unusual situation. During the 2024 F1 season, he will be driving for Mercedes while knowing that he will be wearing a red uniform the following season.
Many have already started talking about Hamilton's season with Ferrari and how he will fare with Ferrari while teaming up with Charles Leclerc. But that will happen in 2025, and before that, there's one full season.
The British driver doesn't forget about that one season, especially, because it's with the team that helped him to become the seven-time World Champion, as he has won six of his championships with Mercedes.
In his first official statement after announcing the move, the 39-year-old confirmed that he's not yet thinking about that. His focus is on the 2024 season with Mercedes, and according to his own words, he's "more driven, fitter, and focused than ever."
"Right now, I’m not thinking about 2025. My focus is on the upcoming season and getting back out on track with Mercedes. I am more driven than ever, I am fitter and more focused than ever, and I want to help Mercedes win once again."
On top of that, Hamilton vowed to end the partnership with the German team based in the United Kingdom on a high, and while it may be impossible to disrupt Red Bull's dominance, it's something that he'll try to do in his last season with Mercedes.
"I am 100% committed to the job I need to do and determined to end my partnership with the team on a high."
One question that remains is what Hamilton's role in the team will be. George Russell will likely want to become the no. 1 driver, and even if Mercedes has a championship winning car, the question will be whether it will be actually Hamilton who would be prioritized.
