Recent reports suggest that the
Williams Formula One team is keen on keeping their 2023 star driver,
Alex Albon, who is also open to the idea of continuing with the team.
Williams finished seventh in the Constructor's Championship in the 2023 season,
even though the team was written off this season as soon as it began.
While the team has always been on top of the race strategies, credits go mainly to Alex Albon, who has been key to delivering the team's results. The 27-year-old collected 27 out of 28 William's total points.
It is much more challenging for drivers in the midfield and the back of the grid to show their talent and skills as they just don't get as much air time and great results compared to drivers in front.
The William driver's contract with his team expires at the end of 2024, and as the
Red Bull Racing team principal described, Albon became "hot property."Many of the teams that are now even in a better place than Williams might be interested in the 27-year-old F1 driver. Consequently, Williams has to be quick if they want to secure Albon and should sign him ahead of the season 2024 if possible.
Formula One presenter Lawrence Barretto
wrote in his recent article for F1's official website that his sources suggest both Williams and Albon are interested in potentially extending their collaboration.
"Sources say Williams are very keen to keep him beyond 2024 as they want to make him a focal point of their rebuild – and Albon is open to such a move if they make a big step again this year."
The 27-year-old has been with Williams driving at the back of the grid for two full seasons now.
He recently said he believes he is now ready and deserves to fight for podiums and race wins.
Therefore, Albon might wait for the beginning of the season to see if his team can deliver him a competitive car and then make a decision on whether to stay with Williams or not.
