Former F1 driver David Coulthard suggested three teams that might potentially threaten
Red Bull's dominance in 2024.
Red Bull obliterated their competition during the most recent (2023) season, winning 21 out of 22 Grand Prix races and almost scoring a clean sweep.
Going into 2024, it is the main aim of at least four teams on the grid to change this and to compete for more race wins and the title, hopefully.
One positive thing about the 2023 season was that all of the top five teams (except Red Bull) were almost completely equally matched, each winning at different stages of the season.
Each of the teams, including
Mercedes,
McLaren,
Ferrari, and
Aston Martin,
is equipped to compete for the Championship in 2024, and the crucial thing will be how much progress they have made over the winter.
As to which teams he expects to bring the challenge to the Austrian team, the 52-year-old started by naming Ferrari, which took the most pole positions from Red Bull last year.
"I don’t have a crystal ball, but you’ve got to believe Ferrari had a strong car last year in terms of single-lap pace."
Ferrari is one of perhaps two teams that won't be satisfied with anything other than the Championship title. Coulthard also mentioned Mercedes and McLaren:
"Mercedes were making big strides at the end of the year… McLaren, again, back of the grid in Bahrain, pretty much at the front of the grid in Abu Dhabi, so huge growth during the course of the year."
Could any of the abovementioned teams complicate the 2024 season for Red Bull? The pace at the beginning of the season will be essential, and we will see further indications of each team's progress during the pre-season testing, which starts today, on the 21st of February.
