Aston Martin driver Fernando Alonso reflected on a difference between the former team he raced for Alpine, and the current one.
Fernando Alonso retired from Formula One after the season 2018, but could not stay away from the sport for too long and returned to race for Alpine in season 2021 and 2022.
The 2022 season was particularly challenging for Alonso as he suffered from multiple retirements due to significant reliability issues, and his relationship with his teammate Esteban Ocon also wasn't the best.
Even though he managed to finish fourth in the Constructors' Championship with Alpine, Alonso decided to go to Aston Martin (back then seventh in the Championship), which was a surprising decision for many.
In the end, though, his decision proved to be one of the best in his career, as he achieved 8 podiums with Aston in the 2023 season and is obviously happy with the team. As reported by GPblog, he said the differences between the two teams are huge.
"Yeah, probably different, different than Alpine for sure. I think this team is very focused on winning and on racing for the next few years."
Aston Martin is also a huge manufacturer whose goal is to sell cars similar to Alpine, but the Spaniard explained the priority for his current team is to win in Formula One.
"This doesn't mean that we don't want to sell cars, and that will help the whole project. But first priority is to win in Formula One, and then the rest of the things will just unfold naturally."
"I'm happy when everyone is just dedicated to one mission, dedicated to winning and focusing on racing. But I don't know if it's the best or not in my career in terms of fitting. I remember Ferrari being Spanish, and they are Italians. It was a very nice experience as well for me."
