Aston Martin driver Fernando Alonso shared some of his current goals and discussed his plans after retiring from F1.
Double World Champion Fernando Alonso signed a contract extension with Aston Martin this year, which ensures he will remain on the grid until the end of 2026.
What happens after that? He doesn't know yet. But in the meantime, the 43-year-old still has some goals that he wants to achieve in F1.
Speaking in an interview shared on Aston Martin F1 team's official website, the Spanish matador suggested he still aims for the championship title, which at this point would be a highlight of his life.
“"There are always things to be achieved. Formula 1 is my focus right now. I would love to win the Formula 1 World Championship with Aston Martin – it would be the highlight of my career and probably my life.'”
However, F1 isn't where the double World Champion concludes his motorsport career. He still aims to win other Championships, like Dakar Rally or Indy 500.
“"Winning the Dakar Rally is still on the wishlist. The Indy 500, of course, but I'm not sure if I will do it again in the future – but Dakar I will."”
“"It will be unprecedented to win the Formula 1 World Championship, Dakar Rally and 24 Hours of Le Mans."”
The Spaniard already won the 24 Hours of Le Mans and the WEC (World Endurance Championship) twice in 2018 and 2019- during his last year before and after his first retirement from F1.
In this period after their first F1 retirement (before his return in 2021), Alonso also competed in IndyCar and Dakar Rally but didn't manage to win. However, he apparently doesn't give up after the first try and plans to return. The Spaniard added:
“"It all comes back to the same thing: I always want to improve – to become better is the main motivator throughout my career."”
“"I am never happy with the position I am in. I want to be better tomorrow, and I want to be better next week and next month. This is what has kept me driving for so long."”
