Aston Martin driver Fernando Alosno was praised by the World Champion Damon Hill during the most recent episode of Sky Sports F1 podcast.
Fernando Alonso is currently
the oldest driver on the grid. In 2024, he will turn 43. To put things in perspective, he is almost twice as old as
Oscar Piastri, who will turn 23 this year.
While the Spanish Matador is much older than the majority of the grid (most of the drivers are around 26), his age means nothing when it comes to performance on track.
The 42-year-old often gets questions about when he plans to retire, but his results speak for him. Last season especially, Alonso proved he is a serious contender.
Moreover, almost all F1 fans love the Spanish driver at this point. It is clear Alonso is in F1 because he enjoys the sport. Damon Hill said on the Sky Sports F1 podcast:
"I think there is a lot of goodwill for Fernando. He is a consistent performer and a smart driver, and it is entertaining to listen to him during and after the races."
Many clips of Alonso's comments on and off the track often go viral on social media because the Aston Martin is naturally funny.
The Spanish Matador is famous for being one of the most talented and strategically advanced drivers on the F1 grid. Hill pointed out he has an 'incredible sixth sense.'
"His comments are often hilarious, and you know he is always one step ahead of you. He has an incredible sixth sense of what is happening around him, both politically and tactically, in a race."
The double World Champion is well respected amongst all the drivers, and there is no doubt that if Aston Martin delivered the Spaniard another competitive car, we will see him on the podium many more times. Hill added:
"Everyone always sees him as a contender and as someone who should not be taken lightly."
