Aston Martin Formula One driver Fernando Alonso recently opened up about sacrifices he and other F1 drivers have to make to make it to the top in their sport.
The double World Champion Fernando Alonso is arguably the most experienced driver in F1 ever. In 2023, the Spaniard became the first driver ever to complete 20 seasons in the sport.
The 42-year-old is also currently the oldest driver in Formula One, and while he says he thoroughly enjoys what he does, he recently revealed it also took a few sacrifices to get where he is now. As reported by RacingNews365, he said:
"You make sacrifices, and sometimes you're aware of those when you're making them, and sometimes you don't realize until five years later."
F1 drivers have a very intense calendar and have usually very little time to spent with their families as they are always on the road. Alonso continued:
"That might be things you'd like to do, or family and friends you don't see as often as you would like. I have sacrificed a lot for F1, but I have no regrets."
The intense life of Formula One driver probably didn't help Alonso's relationships as he has gone through multiple ones but is currently unmarried and without children.
"I'm a very family-oriented person. I love to spend time with my family. At this time of my life, I thought I'd already have a family and kids, all these kinds of things, and I found myself at 42 without any kids yet."
On the other hand, Alonso is one of the best people in the World when it comes to racing, and he clearly loves what he does. Otherwise, he would have no reason to continue racing in F1. He added
"At the same time, I'm doing what I love to do. I feel like I'm enjoying it maybe more than ever, and I go to the races with a different spirit. A lot of that is to do with the team."
