Alex Albon clarified his stance on the future with Williams amid driver market speculations that connected him with multiple teams.
For a while, it wasn't clear whether Alex Albon's contract with Williams expires at the end of the 2024 or 2025 season. Various sources suggested different things, but the 27-year-old was rumored to be one of the drivers Red Bull would be interested in after the end of this season.
Williams's team principal, James Vowles, later shut down all the rumors as he clarified that the Thai driver is contracted with his team until the end of the 2025 season.
However, as we've seen with Lewis Hamilton, contracts might include various conditions and exit clauses that would allow drivers or their teams to break free. When he was asked about his situation with Williams during his most recent appearance on the Beyond the Grid podcast, Albon said:
"It's something that we know, let's say it like that. But on my side, I'm totally focused on the team. I feel like, I know it sounds generic, but it is very true that I love being a part of this team."
Williams is a team with a great history in Formula 1. In fact, it is the second most successful team in the history of the sport when it comes to the number of Constructors' Championship titles (9).
The British team, however, has struggled for the last decade or so. With a new team principal on board, they are on a mission to bring back the prosperous times. Albon said he likes to be part of this mission, as he added.
"I love this kind of building the team around, and this upwards progress that we're on is very exciting. I won't deny and say there are opportunities around.
On the one hand, the 27-year-old admits there are other opportunities with everything that is happening at the moment. On the other hand, Albon says his focus is on performance with Williams, so, as it stands, it looks like he will most probably remain on the same team even in 2025.
"You know, there is a very fluid driver market right now and I think it's exciting. It's moving around, but my focus and my entire time is put on the team and me to go racing, and then that's it."
