Carlos Sainz scored P1 in the last Free Practice session ahead of the 2024 Bahrain Grand Prix qualifying and race.
The last Free Practice session - FP3, took place during the day in Bahrain, which means the track was much hotter than it was in FP2 and how it will be in qualification and race.
This means the conditions were not ideal for setting the fastest laps. Nevertheless, all teams and drivers went on track to practice their fast laps a few hours before the qualification.
Mercedes driver who had the best time during FP2,
Lewis Hamilton, went out on the track first, and the rest of the grid joined him later.
All teams used soft compound tires exclusively, except for
Red Bull, which was the first team in all three practice sessions to put on hard compound tires.
Red Bull drivers are expected to have a pace advantage in qualifying, but the team has been struggling with small issues even during the last practice session, which might hinder their progress a bit.
Sergio Perez, in particular, has been complaining multiple times about problems with shifting, probably the exact same problem that
Max Verstappen was complaining about throughout Thursday. The Mexican driver said on the radio:
"Still upshift is really bad." Fernando Alonso expressed his satisfaction with his
Aston Martin after he sat the fastest lap about ten minutes before the end of the session, and he said:
"Another step, better connected with the car. It's good." This time was later improved by
Ferrari driver Carlos Sainz, who put in a lap of
1:30.824. How much do you think the times below will be improved during the qualifying session?
