Max Verstappen hit back at his critics during the Sao Paulo Grand Prix weekend, suggesting they would be World Champions if they knew everything so well.

The triple World Champion received a lot of criticism following the 2024 Mexico City Grand Prix, mainly for one specific incident with Lando Norris on lap 10 in turn number 7.

The Dutchman went for a move which, according to the words of Martin Brundle, Damon Hill, Johny Herbert, and some other former F1 drivers, could never work.

Moreover, they suspected the triple World Champion either didn't care if he took out Norris or was trying to let Charles Leclerc through to harm his Championship rival from McLaren.

Brundle even stated Verstappen's legacy will be tainted by his sporting attitude. The 27-year-old Red Bull Racing driver hit back at all the criticism from former F1 drivers. As reported by RacingNews365, he said:

"If they knew so well in their careers, they would all have become world champions. I don't know and haven't heard what they say."
"Everyone is different in how they reason and view things, that's always the case. You shouldn't listen too much to that."

Asked whether he discussed his maneuver on Norris into turn 7 with his team after the Grand Prix, the triple World Champion responded:

"No, we didn't speak about it. I think there are other things we can do better. You won't be in that situation [battling with Norris] then, we all know that. I don't need to be critical about it, we are working on it."

Max Verstappen also pointed out how all his haters had to be disappointed during the previous season, where he won 19 out of 22 Grand Prix races and broke the record for the most dominant F1 season in Formula 1.

"I know what most people are like, it's nothing new. Last year everything went perfectly. That must have hurt a lot of people, to not be able to say anything negative."
"That's all coming out now. It is what it is. Of course, last year was much more relaxed. Everything went well and they can't really say anything.
"Now they have a chance to say something and go full steam ahead. In the end, I have the wrong passport in that area. I'm very happy with my passport, but it's the wrong one in the paddock."
