Max Verstappen named all the problems Red Bull struggled with during the 2024 Italian Grand Prix. Surprisingly, power unit issues were one of them. Discover what he said in this article:
The 16th round of the season at Monza Circuit was yet another challenging weekend for the whole Red Bull Racing team. Starting from P7 and P8, Max Verstappen and Sergio Perez crossed the finish line in P6 and P8.
The Dutchman equaled his worst result of the season (not counting DNF in Australia) from the 2024 Monaco Grand Prix, where he also finished only sixth (funny enough, on both occasions, Charles Leclerc won the race).
Nothing went Verstappen's way during the 2024 Italian Grand Prix. From the outside, it was clear that Red Bull struggled with car balance problems, didn't make the best strategic moves, and also messed up on a pitstop - which cost the 26-year-old about four seconds more.
Speaking to the media present at the Monza circuit after the challenging Grand Prix, the Red Bull Racing F1 driver revealed those weren't the only problems he had to deal with. He said:
"It was just another dramatic race. Nothing was running, the car was not running at all. I didn't like the strategy at all, and the pit stop was absolutely crap. We had to drive with less power, so basically everything went wrong."
"Where we drove didn't matter anyway. But you still try to drive your best race, but with our two-stoppers that was definitely not the case. On both hard and medium tires, we were too slow."
Max Verstappen ultimately finished 37.932 seconds behind the race winner - Charles Leclerc, and, even more importantly, 31.779 seconds behind his Championship rival, Lando Norris.
In a different statement after the Grand Prix, Verstappen said winning any of the two Championship wasn't realistic for his team - Red Bull Racing. He added:
"The way things are going, we are not going to win any more races, but it is what it is."
