Red Bull Racing F1 driver Max Verstappen previewed the 2024 Mexico City Grand Prix, where he will be looking to extend his lead in the Championship.
As Red Bull's motorsport advisor Helmut Marko predicted, Max Verstappen was able to extend his lead in the Drivers' Championship after the Austrian team introduced a big upgrade package in Austin.
The gap between Verstappen and Lando Norris in the second place in the Championship went up from 52 to 57 points with five Grand Prix and two sprint races to go.
As it stands, Norris needs to close the gap to the triple World Champion by more than 11.4 points per race weekend if he wants to win the Championship.
Finding himself in a more comfortable position ahead of the 20th round of the 2024 season at Autodromo Hermanos Rodriguez, Verstappen said, as per GpBlog:
"We made some good steps in Austin and we need to keep this momentum heading forwards. Mexico is always a great race and, of course, it is Checo's home race so is always an incredible atmosphere."
"The track is at such a high altitude, which you do need to adjust to a bit more, but we have historically done well here, and I have always enjoyed driving at this track."
Max Verstappen has already won the Mexico City (previously known as Mexican) Grand Prix five times in seasons 2017, 2018, 2021, 2022, and 2023.
If he managed to win the 2024 edition as well, it would be his fourth consecutive win at this circuit, but more importantly, he would break a streak of nine Grand Prix races without a victory that he started after the 2024 Spanish Grand Prix. He added:
"We made some good steps in Austin and saw some promising improvements with the car, but it wasn't quite enough for the Race."
"The Team are working hard to iron out these issues, but ultimately it was a step forward in the right direction and to win the Sprint was a boost for the Team."
"We are heading into the second race of the triple header so it will be about keeping this momentum heading forwards and continuing to gain crucial points in the Championship."
