Max Verstappen discussed
Red Bull's progress and learnings after one of the F1 team's worst race weekends in 2024 in Italy.
Red Bull Racing driver Max Verstappen spoke to the media ahead of the 2024
Azerbaijan Grand Prix, the race weekend following the 16th round of the season at
Monza Circuit.
The race at Monza did not turn out as Red Bull had hoped. Max Verstappen and
Sergio Perez finished only
sixth and
eighth in the
fourth-fastest car of the weekend.
Coming to Azerbaijan with a one-week break between the two race weekends, Max Verstappen discussed Red Bull's progress and where the F1 team stands. As reported by
Formu1a.uno, he said:
"We still have a lot of work to do. I do think, in a way, Monza was positive to learn more about the car, and now it just takes time to make the car better and understand our weaknesses."
"I think we did [understand the weaknesses]. Now, it's about just trying to find solutions for it. I also know that it's not coming within one or two weeks, from when you understand your problems.
"I hope that from now onwards we could just look ahead and try to be better, not like a monster."
After the previous race, Max Verstappen also stated that winning the two Championships wasn't possible for Red Bull with such a level of performance.
Asked ahead of the race weekend at
Baku City Circuit whether he still stood by his damning verdict, the triple World Champion answered:
"If we perform like Monza, it's not realistic. So we definitely need to be better than what we have been delivering lately. We know that"
The Dutchman's rival in the battle for the Dirvers' title,
Lando Norris, disagreed with this statement, saying he would
much rather be in Verstappen's position with over 60-point lead with eight Grand Prix weekends to go.
