Red Bull Racing driver Max Verstappen, who won the first two races of the 2024 season, suggested that "it's definitely been the best start" to a year he has had.
If Charles Leclerc hadn't snatched the one point for the fastest lap of the 2024 Saudi Arabian Grand Prix from Max Verstappen, the Dutchman would have now had the maximum points a driver can earn in two Grand Prix races.
The triple world champion's speed, strategy, execution, and reliability have been flawless so far. He started the first two races from the pole and won both (one of them with the fastest lap).
With all his success in the last 20 races (including the previous season), it is hard to imagine that winning the first two weekends is Verstappen's best start ever.
But in fact, before the 2024 season, the Dutchman had never won the first two races of the year. He told the media at Albert Park Circuit ahead of round 3.
"I think it's definitely been the best start so far to a year for me personally in the car. [It's] just a good balance, but I think also as a team we operated really well without too many mistakes."
The 26-year-old recently told the media he enjoyed the 2023 season more than any other before, as he likes this period of Red Bull's dominance.
There are still many races left this year, but Verstappen's start of the 2024 season suggests he might be in for another enjoyable year in Formula 1.
The only thing that makes it difficult for the triple World Champion at the moment is the tense situation inside the Red Bull Racing team. However, he also said in Australia that he hopes that it can be forgotten soon as the team should focus on their on-track performance. He added:
"So, of course, [I'm] very happy with that, and I hope that we can continue that way. We try to keep on learning what we can do better, but it's been very positive."
