Ferrari driver
Carlos Sainz had a big crash during the Free Practice Two Session at
Yas Marina Circuit.
F1 driver Carlos Sainz came into Abu Dhabi from a very unlucky
Las Vegas Grand Prix weekend marked with problems starting from
Free Practice sessions and
transitioning into the race.
Going into the last race of the season, the
Abu Dhabi Grand Prix, the Spanish driver might have hoped for a smooth operation to finish the 2023 season on a high.
However, his FP2 session came to an early end after a terrifying crash in turn 3. The 29-year-old's car snapped on a bump while turning which sent the Ferrari driver sliding into the wall. He told the media:
"I'm feeling good. It was a pretty big crash, but in the end, with these safe cars, you can get away with these pretty big hits untouched. Obviously [I'm] a little bit sore, but nothing to worry about."
Sainz blamed the dirty air and a bump for the crash right after it happened. However, he revealed there might have been also a problem with his car.
"We're definitely changing things from FP1 to FP2 which might have had an effect but obviously, I'm not going to go into details of that. Unfortunately, I just couldn't control the car."
Looking at the incident from the onboard camera, it seemed like there was nothing the Ferrari driver could do in order to save it after he lost his rear. Sainz added:
"It just snapped on me, and it's those moments where you feel like you're a complete passenger, and you wish you maybe could have done something different."
While he left his mechanics with a lot of overnight work, Sainz should be ready to attend Free Practice Session 3 which takes place more than 20 hours after Free Practice Session 2.
