A friend of
Guenther Steiner, Jack Plooij, reportedly revealed the "real" reason behind the former team principal's departure from
Haas.
So much has happened this year already that it is easy to forget what the first big news of the year was. Guenther Steiner's departure is something that is talked about less and less as we approach the start of the 2024 season.
But when the news about the end of his collaboration between the 58-year-old and Haas broke out, it shocked almost everyone.
Now, a month and a half later, new speculations arise around the case. According to
Formulapassion.it, Ziggo Sport's Jack Plooij, who is a good friend of the former team principal, recently said:
"Günther and I spoke at the beginning of the week, but we weren't allowed to ask how it actually went with Haas and what he would do. But then he sent me a message, allowing me to tell what happened."
Previously, some rumors in the paddock suggested that
Steiner wanted to convert his popularity into shares in the Haas F1 team and that Gene Haas had enough of it and decided to end their partnership.
The report from Formulapassion. also talks about the shares in the team, but in a different context, and more importantly, the team principal allegedly left the team by himself.
"Günther found a 20 million sponsor but told Gene Haas he wanted shares in the team to stay and continue the relationship. Haas, however, did not accept, and so Steiner himself left the team."

What is important to mention is that this story deviates from what Guenther Steiner and the owner of the team, Gene Haas, previously told the media.
