Max Verstappen recorded his 50th F1 win at the 2023
United States Grand Prix, but according to him, those are still rookie numbers compared to
Lewis Hamilton.
The Flying Dutchman is already one of the most successful drivers in the sport's history, and
with his 50th win, Verstappen joined the legendary company. Only four other drivers won 50 Grands Prix in the past, and
Mercedes' Lewis Hamilton is one of them.
However, in recent years, the seven-time World Champion didn't have that much success on the racing track, mostly because of
Red Bull's dominance, which brought the Dutch driver, and
now three-time World Champion, the majority of his wins.
The one at the
Circuit of the Americas was his 50th, but when talking after the race, Verstappen remained really humble, calling his 50 race wins "rookie numbers" compared to Hamilton's 103 victories in Formula One.
"Of course, it's a great number, still rookie numbers compared to Lewis, but for sure it's a great number. I'm very happy with it, very proud of it. Let's try to win a few more."
In the coming weeks, Verstappen will hope to enjoy some more winning, as
he's on course to have the most dominant season in Formula One's history. The Dutch driver could possibly have the winningest season ever, and with four races to go, it's very likely that he'll keep winning as he won 15 of this year's 18 Grands Prix.
The 2023 Mexico City Grand Prix will be held between October 27, 2023 and October 29, 2023, and Verstappen will hope to improve his "rookie number" to 51 in Mexico.
