Sergio Perez discussed one of the most difficult moments in his Formula 1 career that he would like to forget about.
Red Bull Racing driver Sergio Perez has been in Formula One for
14 seasons (including 2024) and has competed in
275 races until now (as of before the 2024
United States Grand Prix).
Throughout this period, the Mexican driver experienced many highs, like the 2020 Sakhir Grand Prix victory for Racing Point, and lows, like the performance slump after the first few races of the 2023 season, which Red Bull dominated.
In an interview with
DAZN, Perez described the performance struggles from this year (2024 season) as one of the most difficult periods in his career:
"This year has been complicated. I think that this year it has been very hard to have a car with the limitations that I have had this season and not being able to express it, right?"
"Because your teammate is winning, he is doing very well and you have an increasingly bigger barrier. It was hard all summer, I think it was one of my most difficult moments in F1."
Red Bull Racing team principal
Christian Horner recently revealed that his team tracked the car's problems to the Barcelona upgrade, which is
approximately when Sergio Perez
started complaining about it internally.
However, Horner admitted the team
did not take the Mexican driver too seriously because his teammate
Max Verstappen kept delivering great performances. When asked about any moment in his career that he would like to
erase from his memory, Perez said:
"Forgetting about these last six months, it has been hard, honestly."
"Imagine when you have a car that is so limiting that you come to the weekend and you know you can't do anything with it, and the only thing you're thinking is that at any moment you could crash it because you don't have control of it."
