F1 driver Sergio Perez stated he prefers the current situation in Red Bull over driving in a midfield team ahead of the 2023 Mexico City Grand Prix.
Sergio Perez is preparing for the "most important race" of the season, the Mexico City Grand Prix. Driving in front of his home crowd, Perez will want to give it his absolute best.
Perez's most important battle at the moment is to keep the second place in the Drivers' Championship in front of the third Lewis Hamilton on Mercedes.
The Mexican had a few tough weekends, as he has not stood on the podium in the previous 4 Grand Prix races. Being under a lot of pressure recently, Perez was asked in his recent interview for formula1.com if he still loves racing in Formula One.
"Yes, I do. Even in the tough times, it’s such a challenge. The challenge never stops, whether you’re winning or having a tough time. There’s always different challenges. It’s harder when things don’t go your way."
Red Bull has built one of its best cars ever, and Checo is one of two drivers who have the opportunity to drive it. While he struggles to keep up with Max Verstappen, he said:
"But at the same time, it’s a great moment. I’d rather be here in this position than being in a midfield team and probably not having this sort of pressure. Things are different. If you’re here, the pressure is different, but also the enjoyment is more."
The Mexican driver has full support of his team to help him achieve second place in the Drivers' Championship with four weekends until the end of the season. Perez added:
"I still enjoy it so much. It takes a lot, but I think I’m in a good age, good moment in my career to go much further than [the end of 2024, when his current contract expires]."
