Lewis Hamilton and
Carlos Sainz discussed how they felt towards each other after it became clear that one would replace the other in the seat of
Ferrari ahead of 2025.
Carlos Sainz found himself in a strange situation ahead of the 2024 season. Just as he decided he wanted to sign a contract extension with Ferrari, he found out he
would be replaced by Lewis Hamilton.
The Spaniard admitted this news caught him off-guard as he now has to look for a different team and enter the 2024 season with no security around his future seat in F1.
On the other hand, the 29-year-old said during the press conference ahead of the 2024
Bahrain Grand Prix that there are no hard feelings towards Hamilton from his side.
"From my side, no hard feelings for anyone, this is how the sport works. I would have done the same in his position. I'm focusing on my future and where I'm going next."
Drivers in F1 understand that they all do what is best for their careers and won't pass on an opportunity just because of someone they have a great relationship with. They also understand that it shouldn't affect their relationship. Hamilton also shared his point of view:
"Yeah, I second what Carlos said, we have a really good relationship - I have a huge amount of respect for Carlos."
Carlos Sainz still has one season to show other teams what he's worth and to make his decision about where to go from Ferrari. There is no doubt that he will remain in F1 as he is considered one of the best drivers on the grid. The seven-time World Champion added:
"He's done an amazing job, and he's grown to be a real strong voice within the driver line up that we have. It's not a personal thing, it's what happens in the racing world."
