According to recent reports, the
Mercedes Formula 1 team has already informed their staff about the departure of the seven-time World Champion,
Lewis Hamilton.
Earlier news today suggested Lewis Hamilton might be in talks with Scuderia
Ferrari over a seat in the team starting from the season 2025.
Sky Sports just posted a video on their social media from outside Mercedes's base in Brackley, saying its employees have indeed already been briefed about the upcoming changes.
"We can confirm Lewis Hamilton is going to Ferrari for the 2025 season. The staff here at the Mercedes Brackley base have just been told in the meeting that that is what is happening."
The 39-year-old driver leaving Silver Arrows is quite big news, and so Mercedes's employees needed to be briefed on what was going on. Apparently, their meeting didn't last too long.
"The meeting lasted about ten minutes or so. We saw the staff arriving, and within 10 to 14 minutes, they were leaving again- those that had come specifically for that meeting today."
Mercedes's staff was reportedly told exactly what the speculations suggested. Hamilton should be departing the German team come season 2025.
"They have been told that Lewis Hamilton is leaving Mercedes at the end of the 2024 season. It is huge, huge news throughout motorsport."
The Mercedes driver was rumored to be in talks with the Prancing Horse multiple times before, so today's speculations didn't seem all that special at first.
However, it seems we might witness the biggest and the most unexpected move of the 2024 silly season later today. Apparently, the official announcement will come at 7 pm GMT.
