Mercedes' F1 driver Lewis Hamilton was disqualified after the 2023 United States Grand Prix, and his team was really "embarrassed" by it.
With the fight for the second spot in the World Drivers' Championship heating up, every point is crucial, and 18 points that Hamilton earned during the 2023 United States Grand Prix could have been crucial.
However, shortly after the race, the British driver and his team found out that he was disqualified from the race due to excessive wear on his skid blocks. As a result, the seven-time World Champion lost all of his points, even earning Red Bull's Sergio Perez two more points as a result.
The team analyzed the situation afterward, and naturally, they were not really happy to have one of the cars disqualified, especially after placing on the podium, right behind winning Max Verstappen.
According to SkySports, Mercedes technical director James Allison spoke about the situation, admitting that the team was really upset by it, to the point where they were even embarrassed.
"Of course the disqualification is a significant blow. It's a miserable feeling. It hurts and, everybody here feels it. Everybody is upset, embarrassed to a degree as well because we absolutely don't like being on the wrong side of the rules, and just lamenting the lost points."
However, despite the clear disappointment, Allison shared a similar sentiment as Hamilton, who said that he was happy about the progress that the team made despite his disqualification.
"Give it a day or two and that will start to wane and be replaced by the much happier feeling, which is we moved our car forward this weekend and that it's hard to do that. But we did it and we did it by a decent amount. And with four races left in the championship, four races where I am pretty sure we will stay on the right side of the skid block rules."
