Williams F1 driver Logan Sargeant gave his reaction to scoring his first Formula One career point after the 2023 United States Grand Prix.
The 2023 United States Grand Prix will be a race to remember for young Logan Sargeant. After unsuccessful races at the Singapore, Japanese, and Qatar Grand Prix, the American driver finally scored his first-ever F1 point at the Circuit of the Americas.
Starting from P16, The 22-year-old managed to move up the grid to cross the line in P12. However, after the disqualification of Lewis Hamilton and Charles Leclerc, Sargeant moved up two places to P10.
His teammate, Alex Albon, who finished one position above him in P9, acknowledged his achievement and congratulated Sargeant on his first point position when he told F1:
"I’m very happy for the team and especially Logan for scoring points today. We had our luck, but we were there to take it!"
While some luck was involved in achieving tenth place, Logan performed a great race, staying pretty close to his more experienced teammate. Sargeant told F1:
"It’s amazing to score my first point in F1 on home turf after the challenging weekend I’ve had. I’m so proud of this team and myself for the hard work and progress we’ve been making this season.
Teams cannot change their car setups significantly during the Sprint weekend after the Qualifying begins. Nevertheless, the Williams team worked hard overnight to change what they could.
"We worked hard overnight to find a direction with the car that was going to be positive, and we found that. We couldn’t change a lot as the car was under Parc Fermé, but we worked on the systems side using the tools on my steering wheel to help move the car in the right direction."
Sargeant currently stands 20th in the Drivers' Championship, far behind his teammate Alex Albon, who is 13th with 25 points. However, this might be the rookie's first important step to gaining more confidence and kickstarting his performance.
