Valtter Bottas recently talked about
Lewis Hamilton's move from
Mercedes, where they raced together, to
Ferrari.
The two have some history together, as they spent five seasons together in Mercedes. In the most recent season, Bottas was driving for Alfa Romeo, which was recently renamed to Stake F1 Team, but
faces further difficulties with the name because of legal reasons.
Speaking at the launch of
Kick Sauber's car for the 2024 season, Bottas also talked about his good friend and former teammate, as his move to Ferrari generated buzz among drivers.
Although some claimed to have known about the move, the Finnish driver admitted that he was surprised by it, as he didn't think it could happen. Still, Bottas is happy for the British driver, as he sees the move as an opportunity for Hamilton.
"[I’m] surprised. I never actually thought that could happen. I think it’s good for him. It’s a big opportunity, it’s a big move. Obviously he’s made the decision himself, so I’m happy for him."
The British driver will be facing a lot of pressure in the Italian team, as he will be expected to bring back old fame and good results. According to the Finish driver, someone with Hamilton's experience can deal with it easily.
"He’s got so much experience of the sport, he’s dealt with many different people in the sport and I think there’s no problem on that."
One of the questions is whether Hamilton will manage to succeed with Ferrari. According to Bottas, if there's one person that could do it, it's the seven-time World Champion, who has proven it also before.
"I’m sure it’s going to be quite an exciting project for him to try and get to the top together with Ferrari. If anyone can do it, he can do it."
