Lewis Hamilton shared an emotional post on his Instagram profile ahead of his last Grand Prix with Mercedes in Abu Dhabi.
While it might feel like the 2024 seasons started just yesterday, we've already reached the final Grand Prix weekend of what is the longest season (in number of races) in the history of Formula 1.
In Abu Dhabi, multiple drivers will be saying final goodbye to their teams: Carlos Sainz, Kevin Magnussen, Nico Hulkenberg, Valtteri Bottas, Zhou Guanyu, and Lewis Hamilton.
It will be most emotional for the seven-time world champion who has been with Mercedes for 12 years - longer than any other driver with a single team in the history of F1.
Throughout this period, Mercedes and Lewis Hamilton became inseparable for many F1 fans, and it was unimaginable that the 39-year-old would finish his Formula 1 career in a team other than Mercedes.
However, as Andrew Shovlin revealed, the German team wasn't prepared to commit to the British driver for a longer period of time, and he at the same time wanted to go and chase his childhood dream - to drive for Ferrari.
The 2024 Abu Dhabi Grand Prix will be the last race for Hamilton in Mercedes. Realizing this ahead of the race weekend, the seven-time world champion wrote on his Instagram:
"This is really it. My last race with @mercedesamgf1. What we've built together over the years is nothing short of historic."
"People doubted me making this move in 2013, and here we are now. The records we've broken, the championships we've won, it all speaks for itself."
"This won't be the last time I thank Mercedes, but going into my final race with this team is really hitting me now. It's really the end of an era in my life, in my career, for the team, and in F1 history."
"I'm proud of what we've created, I'm proud of every single person that been part of this with me. Thank you. It's been real, now let's go again one more time."
