Six-time F1 Grand Prix winner Riccardo Patrese asserted
Lewis Hamilton was a good purchase for
Ferrari, but it is now up to the team to give him a competitive car.
Formula 1 driver Lewis Hamilton has shown in the past that when he gets a competitive car from his team, he can deliver the results and go on to win the Championships.
So far, the 39-year-old has won Championships with both of the teams he raced for—
McLaren and
Mercedes. When
Hamilton fulfills his childhood dream and moves to Ferrari after the end of the 2024 season, he will aim to
repeat this success with the Italian team as well.
Former F1 driver Riccardo Patrese, who participated in 256 Grand Prix races in his career, asserted that Ferrari must now ensure they give the seven-time World Champion a car he can work with. According to GpBlog, he said during his book launch event:
"Now it's up to them [Ferrari] to give Hamilton a car to aim for the world championship, because he is still capable of aiming for the world championship, just like Leclerc."
"Motivation after so many years in Formula 1 only comes if there is a chance of getting a result. I think Hamilton's eccentricity can do good for the Italian environment in general."
"At the beginning of his career he didn't convince me, but for what he has done and how he behaves, I like it."
Patrese believes that Hamilton's move to Ferrari was a good choice for both the driver and the Formula 1 team. He added:
"Everyone loves being able to go to Ferrari, because many have done it, many world champions. Now it is becoming a reality. Ferrari has made a very good purchase."
Hamilton's future teammate will be
Charles Leclerc, who, in a recent interview with
The Race, asserted he was looking forward to the matchup with the
seven-time World Champion who has no "weakness."
