Carlos Sainz shared his feelings after scoring his second victory of the season at the 2024 Mexico City Grand Prix.

Scuderia Ferrari driver Carlos Sainz won the 20th round of the season at Autodromo Hermanos Rodriguez after starting from pole position, securing the fifth win of the season for his F1 team.

The Spaniard lost one position to Max Verstappen (who started from P2) on the run into the first corner on the opening lap of the race. However, the Ferrari driver retook the lead of the race with an incredible move on lap 9.

From that point on, Sainz led every single of the remaining laps in the Mexico City Grand Prix, ultimately crossing the finish line 4.705 ahead of Lando Norris in second place.

Next year, the 30-year-old F1 driver will be joining Williams, where he will have a much lower chance of winning (at least in the short term), and he said ahead of the weekend in Mexico that he would love to win at least one more Grand Prix with Ferrari.

Magically, Sainz managed to do it right away at a circuit where he had massive support from a Spanish-speaking crowd, and all of his family and friends were there to see it. He told Sky Sports after the race:

"It's just a matter of that I think everyone knew I wanted one more race win with Ferrari. I felt like I also deserved it."
"I've been driving well all year and I've been pushing flat out, keeping my motivation high even in a difficult circumstance, and wanting to give everything for this team."
"I felt like I drove some really good races and one more I had to win. Eventually, it happened, and it had to be in Mexico, in front of my family, which is great. It doesn't mean that I'm not going to try and win more. But it had to be here."

The victory in Mexico City is the second this season for Carlos Sainz, and it is the first time that he has won more than one race in a single season.

For the Ferrari F1 driver, the weekend in Mexico City felt special from the beginning, and considering all the circumstances, he had to make sure to bring the victory home.

"Since I arrived in Mexico, I had a feeling that the win was possible. I knew my family was coming to see me here this weekend. My mum was going to be present. I knew I hadn't won a race with my mum in front of me."
"My best friends are here, my dad, and I was like 'there might be something cooking this weekend, and I need to make sure I do everything I can to win this race'."
"Even though I made it a bit difficult with the start, then I made it stick with Max and I enjoyed that race from then onwards."
