Zak Brown commented on the extension of Lando Norris's contract almost one month before the start of the 2024 season.
Lando Norris's new contract with McLaren means he will remain with the team until at least the end of the season 2027. Details are not public, but it is understood to be a multi-year deal.
The CEO of McLaren stated a couple of times in the past that he is extremely satisfied with his current driver lineup and believes he has the strongest driver pairing on the grid.
With a faster car towards the end of the most recent season, Norris got his chance to show what he's got, and he impressed every single one of the team principals on the grid.
In fact, team principals ranked him the third-best driver of the 2023 season, behind the two World Champions Fernando Alonso and Max Verstappen.
It was clear to the CEO he had to move quickly in order to secure the 24-year-old driver before any of the top teams would snatch him from McLaren. In relation to the extension of the contract, Zak Brown told the media:
"I’m delighted that we’re continuing our relationship with Lando for multiple years to come."
Lando Norris has been with McLaren for six seasons (including one in the position of reserve driver), and it is now sure he will remain with the team for at least four more, counting from 2024.
"It’s been a fantastic journey over the last six years, and he has shown fantastic commitment and desire to push the team forward and get McLaren back to the front of the grid."
The 2023 season was the Briton's most successful season so far when he amassed seven podiums - six of which were second places. Brown looks forward to four hopefully even more successful seasons with the 24-year-old.
"Last season, we saw the fundamental role Lando played with the impressive turnaround in results, and I’m looking forward to continuing this push forward together with lots more podiums."
