Aston Martin F1 driver Fernando Alonso shared his view of Max Verstappen during press questions after the 2023 Qatar Grand Prix Sprint Race.
The 2023 Qatar Sprint race sealed the title victory for Verstappen after he finished second and collected the last points needed. If Verstappen decided to quit the season and not race for any of the remaining races, he would still be the 2023 World Drivers' Champion.
Over the course of his dominant season 2023 season, Verstappen broke multiple records like the one for the most consecutive race wins (10) in the history of Formula One. Verstappen was a significant factor in securing the Constructors' Championship for the Red Bull Racing team, winning 13 out of 16 races so far.
After being asked if Verstappen is amongst the greatest drivers of the sport just yet, Fernando Alonso told the press he thinks there is still more to come for the Flying Dutchman.
"Maybe, we have to wait and see. I think the next few years will be even better for Max, to be honest. He’ll keep adding championships, so we will compare to Michael even closer in the future"
Alonso has also recently congratulated the three-time world champion mentioning his victories were not always the easiest. Multiple races have been marked by changing weather conditions and Verstappen still managed to win. Alonso said:
"Big congratulations. It’s an incredible season breaking so many records and winning so many races. And they weren’t easy races sometimes, they were tricky with weather conditions, June and July all the races were hit by rain on Saturdays or Sundays"
The Spaniard knows how challenging it is to constantly deliver perfect performances even in a fast car. Verstappen has not made a single driver error on track throughout the season and for that, Alonso says "It’s big respect."
