Fernando Alonso asserted he has a good position to negotiate ahead of the 2025 season with interest from multiple teams.

Many discounted Alonso as too old ahead of the 2023 season, but the double World Champion showed age does not affect his performances as he collected eight podiums for Aston Martin.

The 42-year-old ranked as the second-best driver of the season in ranking based on the opinions of the team principals of the ten teams on the grid.

His contract with Aston Martin expires at the end of the 2024 season, and the British team made it clear they would like to continue with the Spanish Matador.

However, there might be an opportunity for Alonso in Mercedes, which will be looking for a replacement for the departing Lewis Hamilton. Alonso told the media he is in a good position to negotiate:

"In my case, it's very interesting because I have, I think, a good position to negotiate. But I want to at least do the first couple of races without thinking too much."

However, while multiple teams might be interested in the driver, he suggested he still wants to wait for a bit and see how he feels after a few races.

The 2024 is set to be the most challenging season in the history of F1, with a record-breaking amount of races, and Alonso might decide to retire at the end of it if he feels like he can't keep up anymore.

"I want to see myself into a new season. It's going to be the longest-ever season in Formula 1 [at 24 races]. I want to change a little bit some of the travel schedule and things to be really efficient this year and arrive with high energy at the end of the year. So, a couple of things that are my main focus now are not so much next year."

The Spaniard also recently stated that his priority will be to talk to Aston Martin first if he decides to continue. On the other hand, we have seen quite a few unexpected moves from the 42-year-old in the past. Could he pull off the move to Mercedes to finish his career with Silver Arrows?
