Aston Martin driver Fernando Alonso shared his opinion on a debate started by controversial comments from Kyle Larson, who suggested he is better than Max Verstappen.
2021 NASCAR Cup Champion Kyle Larson triggered a huge debate online when he stated that he is a better all-around driver than F1's triple World Champion Max Verstappen.
Larson is quite famous in America for being an incredibly versatile driver. He has won competitions in multiple classes and on multiple surfaces.
Having achieved what he has, Larson confidently asserted he could beat Verstappen in anything that is not open-wheel. Asked ahead of the Dutch Grand Prix what he thinks about the NASCAR Champions's comments, Fernando Alonso hilariously responded:
"I don't know. I think Max is quite good in GTs as well. I bet he's good in everything, but he's still not as good as me. In multiple disciplines [I'm better]. In F1, I accept that he's the same."
While Alonso's comments came across as quite amusing, he is considered one of the most adaptable drivers in Formula 1. Many experts say versatility is the 43-year-old's main strength.
When he retired from F1 for the first time, Alonso immediately started competing in different series and became a double Le Mans winner and WEC (World Endurance Championship) champion. He also competed in Rally Dakar (although he didn't win here).
We should also remember that Max Verstappen is considered a super talent for a reason. He is not only one of the best F1 drivers in history but also one of the best sim racers, and when he last time tested a GT3 car, he left everyone stunned despite already high expectations.
Nevertheless, Verstappen doesn't like arguing about who is better. When approached with Larson's comments suggesting he's better, the triple World Champion simply responded, "That's fine."
